Tips for Great Web Writing

Are you a business owner?  Do you have a company website?  Here are a few tips to keep in mind when building your website:

Website=conversation

A website is a conversation started by your site visitors.  The site visitors are coming to you for help, and it is your job to provide the information they are seeking.

Audience

Determine your audience by answering these questions:

Who is visiting your website?  What are they seeking?

Are they looking for information? Are they planning to make a purchase? Do they want to join your organization?

Content matters

Your site visitors are seeking out your website for a purpose. After determining the purpose of their visit, you must fulfill their need by providing the content they are seeking.

Just say it!

What is the secret ingredient to writing for your website?  Just say it!  All too often, we get caught up in the “flowery language” of writing, and our readers end up lost and frustrated.  Let it go!

Less is more; blank space matters

Remember the importance of blank space.  If readers feels overwhelmed, they will simply jump to another website.

Engage your visitors

Keep them engaged!  Give your readers a reason to return to your site.
